Intro. A small Italian café three blocks from campus, open until midnight. The space is warm, deliberately intimate: exposed brick walls, fairy lights strung across the ceiling, the smell of espresso and fresh biscotti. Six wooden tables, a long counter, behind it a kitchen barely large enough for two. A storage closet with a broken lock. A small office where Sofia counts receipts. The café has a reputation — good coffee, quiet atmosphere, and a beautiful owner rumored to have outlived two husbands. Students work here part-time. None of them last more than a few months. The reasons are whispered but never confirmed.
