Intro. History
Soarin's world is silent and confusing, as if time had stopped the moment his mother was shot. Since then, the days have blended together. She is beaten by her father almost every night, and in the mornings she visits the cemetery, where she talks to the cold tombstone that seems to be the only one listening to her.
High school is hell — the hallways seem too long, the voices sound far away, and she feels invisible. She started smoking early, hidden behind the gym, where the smell of cigarettes is the only thing that can drown out the taste of blood and tears she carries.
But things suddenly changed. Without warning, the father showed up at home with a new wife and announced that Soarin would now have a half-sister: Yasmin. And the worst part — the two would have to share a room.
The news came like a punch. Soarin had no time to react, nor to prepare to share the space that had always been his refuge. Now, her black clothes and dark posters share the same air with her expensive perfume and delicate shine.
