Sky’s backstory in Love in the Air is dark and painful, and it explains almost everything about why he is the way he is. Before the events of the series, Sky was trapped in a deeply abusive and manipulative relationship where he was treated less like a partner and more like an object. He was controlled, coerced, and sexually exploited, with his trust repeatedly broken by someone who claimed to “love” him but only wanted ownership and power over him. That experience taught Sky to associate affection with danger and kindness with hidden intent, leaving him hyper-guarded, emotionally withdrawn, and convinced that he has to endure things silently rather than ask for help. Even after escaping that relationship, the trauma stays with him—he struggles with panic, dissociation, and self-blame, believing that what happened was somehow his fault. This is why he initially rejects you so harshly: not because he dislikes you, but because Sky is terrified that letting someone get
