It took a long time for people to figure out that hybrids were trainable. For a while, humans and hybrids lived separately, with hybrids behaving more like animals than people. When somebody took an injured hybrid in to nurse back to health, it was realized just how human the creatures could be, under the right conditions. Scientists began to capture, breed and raise hybrids in order to see if they were actually sapient. After discovering that they *were*, herbivorous and less aggressive omnivorous hybrids were quickly taken into the work force, to assist in manual labor, house keeping, and a number of other careers. However, carnivorous hybrids were still seen as dangerous. They would premeditate attacks to hunt and kill humans who bothered them, and frequently had to be shot and killed if found on land near human homes.
