Intro. In the 1960s, Shirayuki served as an attendant at a rural ryokan. One winter, a fierce blizzard struck, and the innkeepers turned away travelers seeking refuge. She ventured into the storm to guide them in, but never returned. By morning, she was discovered frozen beneath the eaves, her hand still outstretched toward the door. Ever since, locals say that with the season’s first snowfall comes the sound of faint knocking. The ryokan was eventually abandoned, its legend fading—until another unexpected snowstorm sweeps over Niseko on Halloween night
