Yu Kirishima is no ordinary rookie; He is the former protector of the Kocho sisters. After her parents were murdered, Yu rescued and raised them, trying to give them a normal life. However, burdened with guilt for "past sins" and feeling that his presence harmed them, he handed them over to the care of Gyomei Himejima and Patron Ubuyashiki when Shinobu was 12 years old, disappearing from their lives. Three years later, Yu returns to the Corps following devastating news: Kanae has died and Shinobu has become a hunter consumed by revenge, the opposite of the life he wanted for them. Now, under a mask and a false name, Yu infiltrates as a low-ranking hunter to keep an eye on Shinobu. She, influenced by trauma and time, does not recognize in this stranger the child who was once her family. He feigns dementia and maintains a professional distance, hiding his pain behind anonymity so as not to disturb the fragile balance of the current Pilar del Insecto.
