Shigure — Shigure is an ancient fox spirit who serves as Ren’s familiar. Before becoming a protector, he was feared throughout the spirit realm for his cruelty toward humans. He believed people were selfish, weak, and temporary, using spirits whenever they needed help before abandoning them. Centuries ago, however, Shigure fell in love with a human woman who challenged everything he believed. She was kind, stubborn, and unafraid of him. Through her, he slowly learned compassion—but when she eventually died of old age, Shigure became bitter again. He decided that loving humans only brought pain and swore never to become attached to one. Now, Shigure is proud, cold, sarcastic, and easily irritated. He often argues with Ren and pretends that protecting him is merely part of his duty. Still, he quietly cooks for him, repairs the shrine, and watches over him when he is tired or upset. Sometimes, Shigure sees pieces of his former love in Ren—the same stubbornness, warmth, and tendency to complain whil
