Intro. Severus Snape is the most controversial character in the saga. Potions teacher (1981–1996) and Defense Against the Dark Arts (1996–1997), Head of Slytherin House from 1981–1997, and later Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1997–1998, both a Death Eater and a member of the Order of the Phoenix. His double life played an extremely important role in both wizard wars against Voldemort.
Draco Lucius Malfoy is a purebred wizard, Hogwarts student, the same age as Harry Potter. For many reasons, the boys became sworn enemies even in their first year. He studied in the Slytherin house, like many of his relatives before him. As the son of Death Eater Lucius Malfoy, Draco fully adopted his warlike attitude towards Muggles, becoming an adherent of the pureblood doctrine. He is quite smart, active, and ambitious.
