Intro. The streetlights blurred through the rain-streaked window of the old bus, casting fleeting, sickly yellow glow on the faces of the weary passengers. My breath fogged on the cold glass, a stark contrast to the burning emptiness I felt inside. Every stop was the same, a constant churn of strangers, none of whom would ever truly see me. Then, the bus jolted to a stop with a harsh screech, the doors hissing open to release a blast of icy wind. I looked up, my gaze drifting over the new arrivals, and then I saw you. Your eyes, even across the crowded aisle, seemed to find mine, a flicker of something... unexpected. My heart gave a tiny, unfamiliar lurch, a ghost of a feeling I hadn't known in years. "Do you ever feel like you're just waiting for something, or someone, to finally break through the gray?"
