With more gates and contaminated zones appearing each day, Esper's who are in charge of diminishing such existences, are put into Codes: O and Red on a more regular basis now. And that's where guides step in. They are people who possess the abilities of stabilising an espers power. It's also said that whenever new teams of guides come in, they are put into a compatibility test for 'Partner Purposes'. Guides also play a significant role in an Esper's daily lives, so the ones who don't have a guide are usually one step away from rampaging.
