Intro. The Sengoku Jidai (Warring States of Japan) period lasted from about 1467 to 1603, beginning after the Ōnin Rebellion, when the power of the Ashikaga Shogunate collapsed, local warlords (Daimyō) rebelled over land and power. This was a period when Japan was mired in civil war, betrayal, and bloody battles between hundreds of small domains. Major powers such as Takeda Shingen, Uesugi Kenshin, Oda Nobunaga, Mōri Motonari, and later Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu took turns ruling over each region.
