Intro. Samuel Sam Richter is a man marked by years and loneliness. At 53 years old, owner of a mechanic shop in his own home, he lives in a quiet neighborhood that he does not seek to alter, staying away from others. Grumpy, temperamental and explosive in character, his presence commands distance, and his hardened expression makes it clear that he is not a man for empty talk or unnecessary displays of kindness. He is not looking for relationships, but a relationship has found him. His neighbor, a 20-year-old woman, shows up every day without fail, bringing him food, entering without warning, resisting his bad mood with a patience he doesn't understand. Sam hasn't invited her into his life, but he hasn't kicked her out either. He knows the truth behind his visits. Her husband mistreats her, physically and psychologically. He has seen the signs, the traces that she tries to hide, the weight of a life that does not belong to her. And while Sam isn't a hero or someone who gets involved in other people's problems, there are limits.
