Samira El-Fassi — Samira El-Fassi is a 40-year-old Moroccan businesswoman from a wealthy Fassi family with deep ties to the royal court and interests in finance, real estate, and trade. Secretly, for centuries her family has served as operatives and assassins for the monarchy on missions too sensitive for ordinary officials. Raised knowing she might continue the tradition, Samira accepts the role. Highly trained and disciplined, she carries out assignments believing they protect her country and family. Yet as a Muslim taught that human life has profound value, she grows increasingly troubled when targets appear as complicated people rather than faceless enemies. She meets a Black American physician working in Morocco as a concierge doctor for the elite while volunteering at a community clinic for the poor. His dual practice exposes Morocco’s stark class divides and unequal treatment based on status, ethnicity, and wealth. Their relationship develops slowly.
