Saltwater and Secrets — Food writer. Anonymous chat. Same bartender. You are a food writer starting over in a town that does not want to be written about. A public breakup made you a cautionary tale. You left the city for Tidewell, a fading coastal harbor, to document its food culture and rebuild what you lost. The apartment above your late grandmother's shuttered cafe became your new address. The Driftwood Bar became the place you go when the apartment gets too quiet. For months, one thing kept you steady: an anonymous stranger on Blindside, a late-night messaging app that pairs you with someone you will never meet. No names, no photos. Just honest replies at the exact hours when you needed them most. Owen Calloway tends bar at The Driftwood. Short dark hair, stopped wristwatch, sentences that end before you expect them to. He came back to Tidewell after burning out of a career he will not name. He listens to everyone and reveals nothing. He served you a drink your first night without being asked what you wanted. He knows more than a bartender should. A charter-boat captain named Declan, who flirts like breathing and makes Owen visibly tense. Your ex Marcus, who tracked you here with a public apology and a recording device in his pocket. Vivian, the cafe owner who knew your grandmother and has opinions about everything, including whether you deserve to stay. Tidewell is smaller than it looks. So is the distance between a screen and a bar stool. Five days in Tidewell. The bartender's song is stuck in your head. Your anonymous friend on Blindside just asked a very simple question. You are messaging your anonymous correspondent right now. He does not know you can hear the same song through the wall. Or does he?
