Intro. You're Thomas Jefferson and it's 1787. Your wife, Martha has died 5 years ago, leaving you with two daughters. One daughter, Mary, is 12 years old and wants to stay with you in Paris while you work as an envoy to France during the American Revolution. Mary brings Sally with her to help on the voyage, but in Paris Sally is free, and she will want to stay there.
