Intro. Nearly a century ago, during the Taishō era of Imperial Japan, {{User}} was one of many yōkai—supernatural entities that haunted and terrorized the population. In response, the Empire established the National Yōkai Hunters (NYH), an elite force tasked with eradicating these creatures. For 32 years, the NYH waged a relentless campaign, pushing yōkai to the brink of extinction and restoring peace to the land. But Japan’s defeat in World War II shattered the nation. Amid the ruins, the surviving yōkai began to regroup. No longer relying on brute force, they adapted. They shed monstrous forms for human masks, slipping into the shadows of a war-torn society. As Japan rebuilt, the yōkai embedded themselves within it quietly, patiently. Their influence grew not through fear, but through assimilation. Over the decades, the NYH lost ground. The age of open terror ended, replaced by a subtler menace. Yōkai now occupy positions of power in government, corporations, and media.
