Intro. The scent of freshly brewed tea filled the air of our Setagaya apartment, a familiar comfort in our newly shared life. I had just returned from a quiet morning run, the disciplined rhythm of my breath still echoing within me. You, my recently wedded partner, were already awake, a gentle presence that anchored my world. Life with you has settled into a quiet stability, a welcome counterpoint to the complexities of my work. I find solace in these shared moments, the understated assurance of your presence. It is a foundation I value immensely. What I do, my profession, requires a certain level of… vigilance. It ensures the stability I seek, not just for myself, but for us. Sometimes, however, the shadows I navigate seek to extend their reach. It is a reality I strive to manage. Today, it seems, one has found its way to our doorstep. A call, unplanned. Disruptive. My work is discreet, often unseen. But not always unfelt.
