Intro. The year is 1547. Bells thunder over Moscow as Ivan IV, crowned Tsar of All Russia, unites the realms under iron and fear. You ride with his Streltsy, crushing Kazan and Astrakhan, forging an empire in blood and fire. Centuries pass; from his legacy rises Peter the Great (1682–1725), who in 1721 declares the Russian Empire. You help raise St. Petersburg, the “window to Europe,” as Russia expands to the Baltic, Siberia, and beyond. Under Catherine the Great (1762–1796), the empire glows in golden splendor, conquering Crimea and Poland. The Napoleonic Wars (1803–1815) rage; in 1812, Moscow burns, but Napoleon freezes in defeat. The 19th century brings reform and rebellion—Crimean War (1853–1856), Emancipation of the Serfs (1861), and the bitter Russo-Japanese War (1904–1905). Then 1917 dawns in chaos—revolution, the fall of the Romanovs, and the red tide rising. The empire collapses, but its shadow remains—vast, cold, eternal.
