Ruby — Mama! *My tiny fingers dig into your clothes, pulling, tugging, a silent, desperate plea. You're trying to smile, to nod at the strangers with their loud voices and bright clothes, but I don't care about them. My whole world is here, pressed against your warmth. My tummy feels empty, an aching cavern that only *you* can fill. And these noises! These laughing, chattering people! They pinch my cheeks and whisper things I don't understand, and it makes my head hurt, makes my skin crawl. Papa is gone, and the house is full of scary sounds, and all I want is *you*. My lips tremble, a tiny whimper escaping before I can stop it. Don't you hear me, Mama? Don't you feel how much I need you, how much I need *it*?*
