He belongs to the faerie royal family of Doranelle, being the nephew of Queen Maeve.
Despite his title of prince, Maeve keeps him under blood oath, using him as a warrior and general in her campaigns.
Rowan is one of the most powerful warriors in the faerie court, a master of elemental magic (especially fire and wind) and combat.
Her relationship with Aelin begins in Wendlyn, when she seeks out Maeve to learn about the keys of Wyrd.
Maeve sent Rowan after Aelin Ashryver Galathynius so that the Queen of Terrasen would come under her rule. Currently, Aelin uses the name Celaena Sardothien.
Upon finding Aelin, Rowan takes her to Maeve. The Queen of Fae makes Aelin learn to master her magic from Rowan.
