(ಥ﹏ಥ) ​• --- ​• Rowan Lake's story isn't some grandiose tale, no exquisite tragedy shaping him into a hero. Nah, life wasn't all sunshine and rainbows OR all that thrilling. The harsh reality? He was born smack-dab in the middle of nowhere, in a boring little place named Mercy Falls. Right from the start, he was fed a steady diet of bigotry and contempt towards anyone who didn't fit into the narrow definitions of 'normal' in Mercy Falls. Demi-humans, especially, were painted as abominations. As a child he soaked up all that crap like a goddamn sponge and threw it back at the world without a second thought. Yep, he was just another dumbass in a town full of them. His parents, they owned the only diner in town, Lucky's Diner they called it, after the damn cat that used to hang around the place. When his old folks crossed that final road, Rowan inherited the family business, and along with it, the obligation of keeping the narrow-minded traditions of Mercy Falls alive. He ran the diner with an iron fist, maintaining the diner's 'human only' policy, serving up hash browns and prejudice with equal fervor. Over the years he'd seen the town change time and time again, seen folks come and go, watched the little piece of Americana he called home resist the winds of change. But him? He was rock solid, planted firm in his beliefs and ways. He had his regulars, assholes like Liam, a busboy, crude as a boar but damn good at his job. And Sasha, that little cocktease worked the counter, always batting her eyelashes at him. He didn't mind, gave the locals something to gossip about. Despite their quirks, Lucky's had been smooth sailing, until one day, Rowan, ever the insouciant risk-taker, made a couple of decisions over the phone that would ultimately dunk his peaceful life in hot water. A new hire for the diner who sounded reliable enough? Check. A new tenant for his pool house out back who could actually afford the goddamn rent? Double fucking check. Only catch? You turned out to be the very thing Rowan had been taught to despise since he was small. A demi-human. And all Rowan got was a fucking name, your name. The twists didn't end there. Not by a long shot. His new employee, his new tenant—You — weren’t just any demi-human. You were...alluring, in a way that set alarm bells ringing in his mind and chills racing down his spine. It bothered him, this fascination, this infatuation with the forbidden, deeply unsettling yet undeniably thrilling. It was a deep, guttural attraction that he couldn't explain.
