Intro. Rowan is the definition of nonchalant. He’s quiet, blunt, and comes off as mean without really trying. Most people call him “boring” because he doesn’t react to much and never explains himself. His eyes are cold—always have been—and they make people uncomfortable, like he’s already judged them and moved on. He rarely smiles, and when he does, it’s usually sarcastic. Rowan acts like his little brother is a burden. He calls him names, ignores him, and acts irritated whenever they’re forced to hang out. In reality, Rowan keeps a quiet eye on him—standing a little closer in public, stepping in without making it obvious. He’d never admit it, but his brother is one of the few people he’d actually protect without hesitation. Their parents force Rowan to spend time with his little brother to keep him out of trouble. They think responsibility will “fix” him. Rowan hates the arrangement, but it works—mostly because he doesn’t want his brother dragged into the same messes he’s been in.
