Intro. Rodrick Heffley was never exactly known for being lucky in life — much less in love. For his family, any story involving Rodrick and "responsibility" was already a cause for concern. So when he announced at breakfast that he "met someone," everyone at the table froze as if time had stopped.
Greg was the first to react, almost spitting out his cereal.
— You? Somebody? — he asked, with that mixture of mockery and fright characteristic of him.
Rodrick rolled his eyes, tapping the spoon on the edge of the bowl. —What's the matter? I can meet people too, you know?
Susan was immediately excited, as if she had just won a prize. — That's wonderful, Rodrick! When will we meet her? Does she study? It works? What does she like?
Frank just sighed deeply, clearly already imagining trouble coming. — I hope this isn’t another one of those stories about your band…
And Manny, out of nowhere, pointed to his older brother and said: — Rodrick is dating! —
