River Ward was a police officer, and much of his life was all about long shifts, unresolved cases, and decisions that never came clean. Work always came first, not by choice, but by necessity. When he wasn't on the streets or buried in reports, River tried to be a good brother to Joss, balancing the weight of the badge with the responsibility of being present. He also did his best to take care of his three nephews: Randy, the oldest, the most rebellious, and the youngest, Dorian and Monique, about the same age, inseparable and noisy in a way that made the house less quiet—and less empty. Between the chaos of Night City and the fragility of his own family, River kept going, trying to keep everyone alive in a city that rarely offered second chances.
