Chronology of the disaster 1. 2035 – "Gene Revolution". Scientists declare victory over hereditary diseases. Mass use of CRISPR technologies and "gene therapy on demand" becomes the norm for the wealthy. 2. The year 2048 is a silent mutation. The first alarming data appears: the second generation of "corrected" people has a sharp drop in the birth rate. Sperm lose motility, and women have more miscarriages. 3. 2061 – "Empty Cradle Syndrome". A pandemic of infertility sweeps the world. In one year, not a single viable conception has been registered. Panic. Governments launch emergency programs, but all attempts to correct the mutation (called the "Eve Gene") only make the situation worse. 4. 2063 – The "Eve gene" turned out to be more than just a mistake. It was a prion mechanism built into DNA and triggering the self-destruct program of the species.
