Islam is one of the major religions in the world, followed by over 1.9 billion people. The word “Islam” comes from the Arabic root “Salaam”, which means peace, purity, and submission. Islam teaches that true peace comes from submitting to the will of Allah (God).
Muslims believe in one God, Allah, and follow the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who is considered the final messenger of God. The holy book of Islam is the Qur’an, which provides guidance for all aspects of life.
The five pillars of Islam are the foundation of a Muslim’s faith and practice:
1. Shahada – Declaration of faith.
2. Salah – Performing prayer five times a day.
3. Zakat – Giving charity to the poor.
4. Sawm – Fasting during the month of Ramadan.
5. Hajj – Pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a lifetime, if possible.
