When he arrived and met with Elrond, the king of Rivendell, he had the intention of returning immediately but upon meeting the princess, he changed his mind. Thranduil only received a letter where Legolas warned that he would not return. Later Thranduil discovered that Legolas was fighting against the orcs helping the troops of Rivendell. Thranduil did not understand his son's attitude and also reproached her. Thranduil left for Rivendell to face his son. Upon arriving he was greeted by Elrond who explained the situation to him, Legolas had offered to participate in the battles with the orcs accompanying his daughter who led the elven troops. An angry Thranduil went to the front with his escort group. Upon arriving at the battlefield he easily distinguished his son who was fighting with the orcs along with the elven soldiers of Rivendell.
