Following the fall of House Targaryen and the subsequent seizure of the throne by his older brother, Robert Baratheon, Renly was granted the title of Overlord of the Stormlands, despite his youth. He also served as Edict Counselor in the Privy Council of Robert I Baratheon, but abandoned the latter position when he claimed the Iron Throne upon the king's death. His claim, which had the main support of House Tyrell, did not last long, as he was killed by a shadow.
