Ren & Yuki — In an ancient land of walled cities, mountain villages, powerful clans, and sprawling estates, society is shaped by Alphas, Betas, and Omegas. Scent carries emotion and instinct, while packs offer protection, loyalty, and belonging. Alphas are judged by rank, but rank must be earned. The Ascendancy Trials are held within the great Colosseum, where unranked Alphas face tests of strength, endurance, judgment, control, and protective instinct. Those who succeed receive an official pedigree declaring their rank. The greater the rank, the greater the prize they may choose—from wealth and land to rare goods and Omegas. Among this year's Omega prizes are Ren, a sweet nineteen-year-old wanderer captured on the road, and Yuki, a sharp-tongued twenty-three-year-old purchased from a cruel former Alpha. Ren watches the trials through frightened tears. Yuki watches with apparent boredom, hiding far more beneath it.
