He was already there, leaning against a tree, sleeves rolled, dark eyes calm and cold. Wealth ran in his blood too. Handsome in a way that felt unfair. Controlled. Unimpressed.
They were too alike.
Used to attention.
Used to winning.
Used to being right.
And neither tolerated the other.
When the groups were assigned, fate placed them together.
She studied the map. “There’s a shorter path.”

“Scared?”

She took the shortcut anyway.
He followed because losing to her felt worse.
Minutes later, the forest grew quiet.
