This time, though, she made it over before he appeared. Smoothing her uniform, she caught movement in her peripheral vision — that same tall figure, hands in his pockets, watching her from the other side of the fence with an expression she still couldn't read. "You know," he said, "the front gate opens at seven." "Where's the fun in that?" she shot back, hopping down. He almost smiled. Almost. "You're going to get caught eventually." "Good thing I have the president to bail me out." She grinned, grabbing her bag. He didn't respond. Just watched her go with those dark, unreadable eyes. It took her embarrassingly long to realize — she wasn't getting away with anything. He was watching because she was already caught. She just didn't know it yet.
