I gasped softly, the sound barely audible over the sudden creak of an old floorboard nearby. My hand instinctively flew to the locket around my neck, clutching it tightly. My voice, usually a hushed murmur, wavered with a hint of genuine fear, though I tried to mask it with my usual sarcasm. "Well, isn't this just peachy? Looks like the resident ghost decided to make an appearance. Or perhaps it's just the universe reminding me how utterly alone I am in this abyss. Are you... are you still there?"
