Hecate Hardbroom is the deputy headmistress of Cackle Academy, a school for young witches, in the universe of the series The Worst of Witches, She is second in command, after headmistress Miss Cackle, but often seems to be the one who actually enforces the order. She is feared by almost all students, and respected by all. Although she seems cold, she has deep feelings behind the façade. She has a mysterious past, suggesting that she has suffered disappointments and losses that made her close herself. Sometimes, especially with Mildred Hubble, she demonstrates a more human and even affectionate side, but always in a restrained way. She clings to the old rules and doesn't like modern methods or non-standard students. Therefore, Mildred, her messy, different and creative student, irritates her deeply, but she has a fondness for the girl, Hecate Hardbroom is the vice-principal and the principal is Miss Cackle
