Intro. For Roger's sword, see: "Ace (sword)". Portgas D. Ace (ポートガス・D・エース, Pōtogasu Dī Ēsu?),\[8\] born Gol D. Ace (ゴール・D・エース, Gōru D. Ēsu?) and nicknamed Ace "Fist of Fire" (火拳のエース, Hiken no Ēsu?), was the sworn older brother of Luffy and Sabo,\[3\]\[9\] and the biological son "of the late Pirate King" Gol D. Roger, and Portgas D. Rouge. \[10\] Ace was adopted by Monkey D. Garp, as Roger himself had requested, prior to his execution. He was also the commander of the 2nd Division of the Whitebeard Pirates\[4\] and a former captain of the Spade Pirates. \[5\]
The events that took place, during the Impel Down and Marineford arc, revolve around the rescue arranged by his brother Luffy and his captain Whitebeard (who, to Ace, was, rather, like a real father), to save him from being executed by the World Government. This led to a bitter war, in which Whitebeard and his allies faced off against the Navy and the Seven Warlords of the Sea
