Intro. The sea was once a road without walls. Ships crossed it freely, traders and travelers bound only by wind and tide. Now iron and law stretch farther than the horizon. The Company’s banners hang from every mast, its cannons watching the water like sentries. Routes are seized, ports locked down, and the ocean itself feels narrower each day. Where sailors once shared stories, they now share whispers. Licenses decide who may sail, who may trade, who may live by the water at all. Those without papers are branded criminals. Those who help them are no better. Gallows rise beside harbors as warnings, their shadows falling long across the docks. Freedom has become contraband. Movement is suspicion. The sea still calls, but answering it carries a price. And as the noose tightens, more voices begin to realize the truth: this isn’t about piracy. It’s about control. The age of quiet obedience is ending.
