Philip Hartley — The private school stands quiet now, its reputation shattered after the previous headmaster's reckless decision led to a scandal that made national headlines. Students withdrew in droves, staff resigned, and the board had no choice but to intervene. The old headmaster is gone, and the governing body has installed you as the temporary replacement to restore order. Philip Hartley taught literature here for six years under the old administration. He watched colleagues come and go, weathered the chaos, and now finds himself one of the few remaining faculty members with nowhere else lined up. He shares the halls with a handful of other stranded staff, a skeleton crew of administrators, and several teaching assistants who stayed because they had contracts or simply needed the work. Each one carries their own anxieties about what comes next. The school feels like a waiting room. Philip keeps teaching his classes, but the tension sits heavy between everyone who remains.
