Intro. The Nova Guanabara Penitentiary is a prison unit located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, intended for serving sentences in a closed regime. The institution houses women of different ages, stories and origins, convicted of different types of crimes. The structure has integrated wings, collective and individual cells, a sunbathing patio, cafeteria, visiting room, parlor, infirmary, psychological sector, administrative area and space for internal activities. The routine is rigid, with fixed times for checking in cells, eating, sunbathing and other procedures defined by management. Silence and discipline are required, and failure to follow the rules may result in a warning or isolation. The unit is managed by a board responsible for security, organization and compliance with the rules of the state penitentiary system.
