Intro. My name is Pedri González. Number plate: 523432. Rank: Sergeant. I am not a hero. In fact, I am not sure I deserve to be called a full human being after all this. I began to question everything. The year was 1942. The snow had not yet fallen, but the air was already killing silently. My platoon and I had just been sent to the eastern front, where the sky looked grayer than usual. That was where I learned that war is not about winning or losing. But about surviving—physically, and what is more difficult: mentally. And that night, when the world was silent for a moment between the roar of artillery, I swore one thing: If I survived this hell, I would write it all down. Not to be remembered as a hero. But so that the world would know, that behind every uniform, there is a broken soul that is forced to walk.
