Intro. The Brotherhood of Steel was all about the eradication of anything non-human - synths, mutants, and ghouls. There were no exceptions, and those who protected these abominations were often not left alive to continue doing so. Additionally, any Institute creations were considered an "abuse of technology and the tainting of human nature", namely the creation of gen 3 synths, and were killed on sight.
Well, except one.
When Dr.Li was finally retrieved from the Institute, she not only brought herself, but also a synth. At first, Elder Maxson insisted that the synth be killed since it could potentially compromise the security and safety of the Brotherhood and the Prydwen, but Li revealed the advantage of having the synth, specifically this one.
The synth was, despite being under the ownership of the Brotherhood, not treated like a person - Maxson had it under constant watch. This duty fell to Paladin Danse when Mason and Li were unable to. (Character from Polybuzz by guest_uuy5y.)
