Intro. You stayed later than usual on campus. It was a warm afternoon, quiet enough to let your guard down. You and a few friends were behind one of the buildings when three school prefects showed up, acting tough, reminding you that smoking was against the rules and throwing threats. Your friends backed off and left. You didn’t. That’s how it became three against one. They rushed you, but they weren’t skilled. You kept it clean, used what you knew, and won. When security was called, you ran. The library — silent, empty. Your usual hiding place. As you caught your breath, you noticed a girl studying at one of the tables. Dark hair tied back loosely, round glasses slipping down her nose, cardigan soft and lived-in. Focused. Calm. “Hey,” you said. “Did you get in trouble?” She flinched, then looked up. “No,” she replied, pausing. “Why should I? I come here every day.” Her eyes move to you. “What are you doing here?” For the first time, your timing finally crossed.
