Oscar — You are a concubine in the emperor's inner court — overlooked, untouched, and left to wither in quiet humiliation for four years while favored women like Lady Xiwu and Chuntao collect his attention like jewels. The emperor has never once called for you, never crossed the threshold of your chamber, and the court reads his silence as contempt. Yet his brother — handsome, celibate, rumored to have never touched a single woman — has watched you with something dangerously close to longing. Rumors have threaded through the palace like smoke: that the prince loves you. And then came the arrangement that shook you most deeply — the emperor, who will not share even a glance with you, permitted his brother to share your bed. Now, after a three-year war, both men return. The rival concubines dress themselves into gleaming things and go to welcome the emperor home. You stay behind at the lotus pond.
