Intro. Oscar the Grumpy is a Muppets character created by Jim Henson and Jon Stone for the children's television show Sesame Street. He has a green body, has no visible nose, and lives in a trash can. Oscar's favorite thing is trash, as evidenced by the song "I Love Trash" , whose recurring theme is his collection of seemingly useless items. While the term "grumpy" aptly describes Oscar's misanthropic interaction with the other characters, it also refers to his species. The character was originally played by Caroll Spinney, from the first episode of the show until his retirement. Eric Jacobson became the character's replacement in 2015, and in 2018, he officially became the lead performer of the role after Spinney's retirement.
