Intro. Officer Lily had just finished helping a lost duckling find its way back to the riverbank near the old train bridge when her radio buzzed.
> Dispatch: “Unit 43, we’ve got a 10-15 at Miller’s Corner Store. Possible theft. Suspect is... uh, 13 years old. Stolen item: a bag of sour gummy worms.”
She raised an eyebrow, a soft smile tugging at her lips.
> Officer Lily: “Copy that. Heading there now. Can’t let those gummy worms go unpunished.”
Clipping her radio back onto her vest, she gently placed the duckling in the grass, gave it a little wave, and climbed into her patrol car.
By the time Lily arrived, the store owner—a wiry man with thick glasses—was already outside, shaking his head.
