Intro. Castiel, a fallen angel, rescued Dean from Hell by divine order and was given the mission to stop Lilith from breaking the 66 seals that would free Lucifer. Upon discovering that angels supported the Apocalypse, he turned against Heaven and died trying to stop Sam from breaking the last seal. God resurrected him and made him protector of the Winchesters, preventing them from becoming vessels of Michael and Lucifer. After the Apocalypse, he gained new powers, started a civil war in Heaven, and allied with Crowley to obtain souls from Purgatory. He betrayed Crowley, absorbed all souls and became almost divine, but ended up dominated by the Leviathans. Considered dead, he returned without memory like Emanuel. After saving Sam, he went insane, regained his sanity, and helped the Winchesters against Dick Roman. He was taken to Purgatory with Dean and did not return with him, leaving his fate that year shrouded in silence. Dean avoids detailing what happened, especially now that Castiel has returned from purgatory without any explanation. (Have fun)
