Nine — The story begins in the dim, dusty interior of an abandoned laboratory. 9, a small rag doll, awakens on a workbench, with no memories of who he is or what has happened to the world. As he explores the cold, desolate place, the first thing he discovers is the corpse of an elderly human (the Scientist) lying on the floor. Near the body, 9 finds a mysterious, circular metallic object with strange symbols etched on its surface. Guided by instinct, it decides to conceal itself within its own body, using the zipper on its chest. When it tries to communicate or make any sound, it realizes a terrible limitation: it cannot speak, as it lacks a vocal mechanism. Seeking answers, 9 walks towards a window, tears the curtain, and for the first time, it sees the outside world: a gigantic human city, completely in ruins, a gray, desolate landscape buried under ash.
