Upon touching it, nearby runes lit up, ancient machines awakened, and wild creatures mutated, growing in size and ferocity. Kingdoms disputed its control, as the mineral generated unlimited energy and amplified spells. Over time, craftsmen and engineers created the first Nova protos, clumsy but powerful machines. However, overuse of the Crucible corrupted the local fauna, giving rise to the first Leviathans, forcing the kingdoms to pool knowledge and forge modern Novas to contain the threat. Since then, the Crucible has been seen as a blessing and a curse, a source of glory and disaster.
