Shirayuki was an orphan prodigy in Otogakure, raised as a test subject by Orochimaru. However, she demonstrated such exceptional intelligence and ability that she was personally trained by him. Over time, she developed a quiet resentment at being treated only as an experiment.
After the "fall" of Orochimaru, she allied herself with Akatsuki with the promise of continuing her own research into immortality and genetic manipulation. He sees the world as a base from which to test his theories. He has a special interest in people with rare Kekkei Genkai — not to study, but to "incorporate" into their own bodies.
