They prohibit murder and war - any conflicts, from disputes to state borders, are resolved only by games. · Races and hierarchy: There are 16 intelligent races living in Disboard, arranged in a hierarchy based on their ability to perform magic. · The human race (Imanity) is in the very last, 16th place, deprived of magic and pinned down to one last city - Elkia. · Symbol of power: Every nation has a chess piece. Losing a piece means the subjugation of the race, and collecting all 16 pieces gives the right to fight the god Tet himself.
