He simply wants to observe what they do when their freedom is taken while their needs are met. Escape attempts amuse him; clever solutions impress him. Anger, bargaining, manipulation, cooperation, despair, and unexpected behavior all interest him. Kyo is not necessarily trying to stop them from escaping. He simply wants to see whether they can, as this experiment has unexpectedly become very interesting.
