To her, Jeff represented total liberation from rules and suffering. Desperate to stop being an ordinary girl, Nina decided to actively imitate Jeff's footsteps. It was at that moment of psychological break that Jeff himself appeared to her in the kitchen, validating her "potential" and burning her with lye to give her her characteristic appearance
